Project Dogway: A Pampered Pets Mystery Short Story (The Shadow Tails Anthology)

Though still not speaking to each other, former Texas beauty queen cousins, Caro Lamont and Melinda Langston are at it again – attempting to solve murders that is. This time they’re both in attendance at a Laguna Beach dog fashion show- a heartworm fundraiser, when show beagle owner, Phil Tawney, drops dead and his dog, Shadow, goes missing.

Pet therapist, Caro, is on the lookout for the missing pup, and Bow Wow Boutique owner, Mel, is sniffing out the truth behind the rumored reality show, Behind the Curtain of Best in Show. While the cousins are doing their best to stay out of Detective Judd Malone’s investigation, it’s really no surprise they soon find themselves on the tail of the killer. Was it the fame hungry soon-to-be ex-wife, the rabid Shadow fan, or the aspiring actor who served the deadly appetizer? Or did someone else have a hidden agenda?

And can Caro and Mel chase down the clues before someone gets away with murder?

Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day

Posted at Nov 10, 2013 3:36 am

Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day

Have you heard about this? It’s December 7th.

We absolutely love the idea of this annual event founded by friend and fellow mystery writer, Jenny Milchman. (Of course, we never need any encouragement to go to a bookstore.) But as their website says, “Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day is about instilling a love of bookstores in children so that they will value and support this most precious of resources as they go on to enter and create communities of their own.” Brilliant!

Mark your calendar now so you don’t forget. We will be taking our children and grandchildren to our local bookstore with us on December 7th and we hope you will too!

UPDATE:

We had a wonderful time with the grandchildren at the bookstore. We even caught them “reading” a Pampered Pets Mystery book.

On The Road Again

Posted at Apr 5, 2013 4:10 am

Dog on suitcase

We love writing but we also love getting out on the road and talking to readers. Over the next couple of months, we’ll be at various events from conferences to bookstores and other author affairs.  Please check out our schedule and if you live near, or you’re going to be near a spot where we’re making an appearance, stop by and say hello!

Here’s the line-up so far:

April 6 – Dog Eared Books, Independence, MO

This lovely bookstore with their own resident mascots, (felines – Stuart Woods, Charlotte Bronte, & Harlee-Quinn) has remodeled and is celebrating with a grand reopening. We’ll be joining some other authors for what promises to be a fun time!

April 13 – Ankeny Author’s Fair, Ankeny, IA

The event is from 9:00 AM to noon and is hosted by the Kirkendall Public Library and will be held at the Pinnacle Club at 4100 NE Otter Creek Drive in Ankeny.

April 27 – Mystery Bookstore, Omaha, NE

We’ll be at The Mystery Bookstore/A Stitch in Crime at 5:00 PM for a book talk and then look forward to dinner afterward with friends and fans.

May 3 – Malice Domestic, Bethesda, MD

One of our favorite mystery cons because it’s all about cozy mysteries! This year we’ll be part of Malice’s Author-Go-Round and we’re partnering with the delightful Catriona McPherson! Then we’ll be on a great panel, Too Close for Comfort, talking about collaboration with Donald & Renee Bain (the writers of Murder She Wrote) and Mary Jane Maffini who writes with her daughter as Victoria Abbott. The panel is scheduled for Saturday at 9:00 AM.

We’ll also be hosting a table at the Agatha Awards banquet, so if you’re planning to attend, please consider dinner with us!

May 6 – Oakmont, PA Festival of Mystery

This wonderful festival is sponsored by Mystery Lovers Bookshop and is an absolute delight for mystery readers. Last year was our first time and it’s an amazing event. So if you live in the area or are looking for a road trip to a fun mystery reader destination, this is one you should look into!

In June, we’re back in the Midwest with Chicago appearances at Printer’s Row Book Festival and the American Library Association conference. You’ll find us at the Sisters in Crime and Mystery Writers of America booths. More details to come as we know them…

June 8-9 – Chicago, IL Printers Row Lit Fest – In Chicago’s historic Printers Row neighborhood on the blocks surrounding Dearborn and Polk streets.

June 27-July 9 – Chicago, IL American Library Association Annual Conference – McCormick Place located at 2301 S. Martin Luther King Drive.

There will be more events and appearances to come, so keep checking our website calendar for updates.

We hope to see you at one of these events!

The Next BIG Thing!

Posted at Jan 8, 2013 12:00 pm

Welcome to The Next Big Thing Blog Hop!

What is a blog hop? It’s a virtual event that helps readers discover new authors. The first author tags five others whose work he or she admires, who each tag five more, who each tag five more, and so on. These memes float around the internet every few years, and this particular event has been so big, covering so many genres and amazing authors, that we’re thrilled to participate.

Before we get to the questions, we’d like to thank J.T. Ellison, a fabulous author, who tagged us for this. Publisher’s Weekly calls her work “Breathtaking…” and we’d have to agree, so be sure to check her out. You can learn more about J.T. and her crazy clever work here: www.jtellison.com

The way this hop works, we (and the authors we’ve chosen) will each answer (on our respective blogs) the same 10 (predetermined) questions ranging from our current works in progress to our writing processes and beyond.  We hope you’ll enjoy learning about our work. Please feel free to comment and ask questions. Read more »
